Music - select a song you like with a beat that is easy to hear, preferably not more than 2 - 2 ½ minutes in length.

Popular Dances - besides the traditional Foxtrot and the elegant Waltz, the Tango, Rumba, Salsa and Swing are all very popular at contemporary weddings.

Wedding Dress - if your dress has sleeves, make sure you can comfortably raise your arms over your head for turns and spins. Also, check the length of your wedding dress to make sure you will not be stepping on it while dancing.

Size of Dance Floor - find out the size of the reception dance floor then practice in that amount of space.

Shoes - make sure your heels won’t cause you any problems like tearing your dress or taking you off balance. You can always be wearing flat shoes during your first dance avoiding extra head ache.
